Online Dating question legal question?

Lets say if I meet someone on a dating site. The person profile says their 19 years old. I then talk to them on the phone to comfirm their age, and they say their 19 years old, just like it said on their dating profile. What happens if I meet this person and their under 18 years old, can I get into any legal trouble for meeting someone under age? Could it be a cop and lie about their age, then arrest me for trying to meet someone online underage? If I do meet someone online, I plan on asking for ID identification, just to be sure im dating someone that is of age.

Online Dating question legal question?
It wouldn't be a cop - they would be pretending to be under age, not legal age.

If you have doubts when you meet someone, don't have sex with them. Rather than demanding ID before sex, it might be more tactful to arrange dinner with friends, then say something like "This is Susan - can you believe she's actually 19?" - that way you have witnesses.

Don't have sex with someone you think MIGHT be under 18 - you are the one that will end up having to prove you really believed they were old enough for sex.
Reply:Just talking to someone isn't illegal.
Reply:I think when they arrest the people on TV, they have solid evidence the older person was meeting the younger person for sex.

I know in FL statuatory rape is a strict liability offence, which menas you dont have to intend to break the law. The fact that you did it is illegal in and of itself.

However, simply meeting someone online and then meeting them in person after just casual conversation should be nothing to worry about.
Reply:well if you had sexual relations with this girl, then yes you can get in trouble. i wouldn't do anything until you find out the truth. ask her for her id or drivers license.....wont hurt
Reply:If you are meeting them for sex, you can

And yes you should check ID for real, and be upfront you will want to see it before the date starts
Reply:Speaking is not illegal. Not online and not if you meet.

You have no real possibility to check someone's age

online. You can hardly ask for an ID copy sent via fax.

That probably would make you very interesting on a

dating platform lol. Cops can lie about their age. And

they could sue you as well. But they can't sue you

just for meeting them because of their lie. There has

to be a basis to assume that you wanted to date someone

underage. If you have all reasons to believe the person

is over 18 there's no basis.

Since cops can't be 14 the only way they'd lie is to say

they're underage.
